Child caregiver permit types
Since home child care provider services make up 1.6% of the total employment population, Canadian authorities provide different types of
visas depending on how long the professional has stayed in the country and how much experience the individual has, especially Canadian
work experience plays a huge role.
Temporary work visa : When a foreign national gets a home child care provider job in Canada, they need to apply for a temporary
work visa to gain entry and work in the country. The permit is valid for six months, and necessary documents like proof of employment
are required.
Openwork permit : After six months of Canadian residency, the home child care provider can apply for an extension through an open
work permit. This type of visa allows an individual to look for work from different employers, unlike the temporary work visa, limiting
an individual to the employer who called them to Canada.
Postgraduate work permit : For international home child care provider students looking to extend their stay after finishing
school, they can apply for the postgraduate work permit, valid for students from a Canadian designated learning institute.
Permanent residency : Home child care providers who have stayed in Canada for more than a year with similar work experience are
eligible for permanent residency. As of 2021, Canada will give permanent residency to around 30,000 applicants, but permanent residency
is not available to new applicants.
