The Canadian Immigration department launched the super visa program back in 2014 to help children and grandchildren residing in Canada reunite with their parents and grandparents by permitting longer visiting periods for up to two years consecutively. This has eased the stress of reapplying for new visitor visas that are valid for only six months which has seen an increase in the number of applications for super visas.
40,000 is the number of applications set to be accepted by the Canada immigration office in 2021, with only 10,000 being carried over from the 2020 intake process. Family reunification plays a critical role in attracting, retaining, and integrating foreign nationals into the success of Canada.

Super Visa Permit Type

Super visa differs from the regular visitor visa because the latter limits your stay to only six months with the need for new applications if you want to extend your stay beyond the given period. With the super visa, eligible applicants can visit their families in Canada for up to two consecutive years without renewing their status and is valid for ten years. There are only two types of super visa permits types.
Parents and grandparent super visa : The visa was intended to reunite children and grandchildren with their parents and grandchildren. Proof that you are related has to be provided during the application process.
Spouse super visa : As a Canadian resident, you can sponsor your spouse for a super visa, but you need to prove that your relationship is genuine and authentic. Proof can vary from joint bank statements showing the same address in Canada to copies of joint utility bills.
