In 2021, Canada plans to provide 30,000 sponsorship positions to Canadian PRs or citizens who want to sponsor their parents or grandparents. If you really want to be accepted for the 2020 sponsorship program, the first thing you must do is find out what will be required.

What is parental sponsorship?

Family reunification programs take in about thirty percent of all immigrants to Canada. When seen separately, these programs may be separated into the following broad categories:

  • Conjugal partners, common-law partners, spouses, and children living outside of Canada
  • People who are in common-law relationships or marriages and living in Canada
  • Parents and grandparents
  • Siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews

Under the Parent and Grandparents Sponsorship program, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident may sponsor their parent(s). Unlike before, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have now put in place a “first-in, first served framework.” Notwithstanding the 2021 newly stated number of 30000 invites to apply (ITAs), applications for the program typically begin with the first 20,000 sponsors.
Like the Express Entry (EE) system, the application processing system has comparable components. Parents intake procedure looks like this:

  • Potentially interested sponsors show their willingness
  • Potential sponsors are invited to apply
  • The proposals submitted by potential sponsors are reviewed

To become a sponsor, a Canadian citizen or PR (permanent resident) must first submit an online form that mentions their interest in sponsoring their parents (or grandparents). The online application form asks for general personal data, such as names, addresses, and dates of birth from possible sponsor(s) and candidate(s). The assuming sponsor will get a confirmation number after they have submitted the required information.
After evaluating each proposal, the IRCC then asks prospective sponsors to submit their applications for sponsorship. This parents’ sponsorship category invites only the applicants who have been selected. Sponsors who get an invitation have two months to fill out an application.

The parental sponsorship application process

The application procedure for Parents Sponsorship Program is identical to that of a conventional Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). Additional paperwork, however, is needed to guarantee that the parents would get enough assistance throughout their stay in Canada. The application process includes the following:

  • An invitation letter from the applicant's child who resides in Canada
  • Documents demonstrating that the child satisfies the minimum LICO (Low Income Cut-Off)
  • Proof of parenthood with the sponsor through documents such as a birth certificate naming them as a parent.
  • Evidence of a one-year medical insurance plan

The visa office may require additional documents. The whole application will be evaluated based on a variety of criteria.
The objective of the travel to Canada must be considered and the parents’ ability to retain adequate connections to their homeland. Proof of this information may be provided by demonstrating familial relationships, money, among other things.
All candidates for super visas will be asked to submit to a medical exam. After the application is made, the visa office will provide paperwork and guidelines for this examination.

Eligibility to sponsor

Sponsoring your parents for Canadian PR is only possible if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. To be considered a sponsor, the following criteria must be met:

  • You must be at least 18 years old and reside in Canada to apply.
  • You must have enough money to sustain the parent you are supporting.
  • You do not fall in any of the categories below:
  • ❖ Suspended from Canada pursuant to a deportation order
  • ❖ Incarcerated in a reformatory, penitentiary, prison, or jail
  • ❖ Grappling with certain criminal problems
  • ❖ Facing a bankrupt issue (and your charges have not been discharged)
  • ❖ Obtaining social assistance for reasons other than a disability
  • ❖ Owing debts to Canada
  • ❖ Refused to pay back a financial loan to a Canadian immigration program, showed late or no payments entirely.
  • ❖ You have already financed another relative for PR but couldn't meet the terms of the sponsorship arrangement.
  • ❖ You owe alimony (or child support) payments that they are in default.

Sponsorship fees

To sponsor, you must also pay government fees, which will include the following:

  • Sponsorship application fee is $ 75
  • The processing fee for main applicants is $475
  • The processing fee for the main applicant's spouse is $500
  • The fee for obtaining a permanent residence permit is $490 per applicant
  • the cost for biometric identification is $85 per individual

The quickest method to pay these fees is via the IRCC's site.

Parental super visa

Generally, a visitor visa is not issued to a family member who is being or may be sponsored by another family member in Canada. However, the Super Visa for parents (and grand parents) is granted to a parent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident as an exemption to the general rule.
A Canadian visa office will usually complete your parental sponsorship application within one year of receiving your application approval. The foreign parent will then get a permanent resident visa, enabling them to travel to Canada and will become a PR upon arrival.

Undertaking

You agree to take on a significant responsibility when you decide to sponsor your parent to Canada. If your application is successful and your parents become PRs, the procedure of undertaking starts. Your parents should not find themselves in need of social assistance during the next twenty years. In fact, you'll be forced to pay Canada back if they do.
If your parent has other dependent family members, the task extends to that person for at least 20 years. To fulfill your legal responsibilities, you will also have to fulfill your duties to the individual's spouse, any dependent children, and common-law partner.
Parental sponsorship necessitates at least the money required to sustain minimum necessities. The smallest income an individual or family must have is dependent on the size of the household.
When you've got the right amount, use the following chart to see whether your financial situation matches your income. Your earnings must always be equal to or more than the numbers in the table below.

SIZE OF FAMILY UNIT MINIMUM INCOME 2020 MINIMUM INCOME 2019 MINIMUM INCOME 2018
